Fiji is a beautiful place; people come from all over the world to visit this spectacular country. But what I’ve noticed is that when it comes to having a unique place to exchange vows, it is the overseas couples are the ones that usually gets the best spots, maybe it’s because they usually get help from the hotels’ wedding planners or maybe they are more appreciative of what Fiji’s nature scenes has to offer, either way I think it is fabulous not only for them but also for our booming tourism industries . So today I will touch on venues readily available for locals to take advantage of.
1. Thurston Garden & the Fiji Museum Patio:
Situated in one of Suva City’s serene surroundings the Thurston garden offers a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Also adds a natural touch to photo shoots. The museum patio is available for reception and formal parties. For more information contact the Fiji Museum on (679) 3315944.
2. The Majestic Borron House:
This is one of Suva’s most impressive residences in Fiji, the house of the late Mr. James Sawers Kidston Braddock Borron. This building is a visual splendor to both visitors and locals alike and it overlooks the Suva harbor providing the full view of the afternoon sunset displays. To be honest I didn’t know this place was available for hiring until Mrs. Ratabua took wedding pictures there (Amazing for photo shoot!) Yes ladies this majestic place is up for hire, cost around $3,000 to hire for one day, it may be too costly but it is worth it and if you do decide to hire it then I suggest that you take advantages of all the things that comes with the package (especially those classy colonial rooms and den!!). For further details:
Contact Office Accommodation Division: Telephone: (+679)3316521 or (+679) 3316522 , Fax: (+679) 3302554.
3. Hotels, Restaurants, Community Halls & Local Clubs:
There are many hotels which have halls made especially for events and weddings; for locals in Suva Area, there is the infamous Novotel Convention Centre in Lami and many other hotels along the coral coast. You can have the option of indoor or outdoor weddings, or you can go creative and hire a community hall near you but keeping in mind that you will have to hire equipments, decorator/decorations and other equipments. Fiji Sports Council offer most of their halls for hire along with the amenities, they also offer decorations, seat covers & table covers ($3 for seat covers, not so sure about the table covers) and walk way red carpet ($100). Just a heads up when holding functions in these areas you have to make sure the seats & tables are in the area way before time to avoid last minute disappointment.
Restaurants & clubs will give you an ease since they will provide venues, in-house menus, decoz & entertainments (if you’re lucky enough )
This are just a few ideas, I will be putting up new & exotic places around especially around Suva because I think most of these areas are being over used while other potential places are being overlooked. Well at the end of the day it is up to the to-be-wed to decide and I am still the biggest fan of venues which are significant to both of the couple:it can be in the village where you were brought up in, the backyard where you shared most childhood memories or under the tree where you shared your first kiss 🙂 the options are endless.
So, to the future brides & groom….all the best
